Seoul, Republic of Korea – I was pleased to represent the Asia LEDS Partnership and serve as a featured panelist at Asan Plenum 2016 in Seoul, Korea last week. The Asan Plenum is an annual conclave is Korea and East Asia’s premier conclave on international affairs, and this year – as in prior years – it attracted about 400 people.
Professor Kim Sang-Hyup chaired our well-received session on “Living with Climate Change”. I felt that the choice of Professor Kim was especially suited to Asia LEDS Partnership’s focus on the multiple benefits that arise from LEDS approaches, as he was a key figure in designing Korea’s national Green Growth Strategy, which was one of the world’s first. Professor Kim and my fellow panelists were all pleased that among our audience was the former Prime Minister of Korea, His Excellency Duck-Soo Han, whose efforts were instrumental in launching Korea on its green growth path and in attracting major international organizations such as the Global Green Growth Institute and the Green Climate Fund to establish their headquarters in Korea.
The well-organized Asan Institute has already published a sketch of our session at http://en.asaninst.org/contents/forums/session-3-living-with-climate-change/.
