September 29, 2-14 – We are pleased to announce that the Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) is the newest Co-Chair of the LEDS Global Partnership Finance Working Group. MPI will provide an Asian government perspective in helping to guide the working group's financing technical assistance and matchmaking efforts, training on financing strategies, and case studies of financing approaches.
MPI has demonstrated leadership create a policy framework, funding mechanisms, and incentives in Vietnam to promote LEDS investments. MPI heads the Inter-ministerial Coordinating Board to support effective implementation of the Vietnam Green Growth Strategy, in collaboration with leaders of the ministries of finance, industry and trade, agriculture and rural development, and natural resources and environment, and works to effectively blend and manage international and national, public, and private sector finance for green investments. MPI also has established a Climate Finance Task Force to guide the preparation of financing mechanisms for climate change mitigation projects and programs and those responding to national climate change needs.
At the regional level, MPI has an active member of the Asia LEDS Partnership Steering Committee, supporting efforts to facilitate best practices and advance financing of climate change actions in Asia. In March 2014, MPI hosted a regional workshop in Hanoi on "Accessing Finance for Green Growth and LEDS" in partnership with the Asia LEDS Partnership, with support from the U.S. Agency for International Develpoment (USAID), Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), SWITCH-Asia Network Facility, World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
