This webinar walks the audience through A Guide to INDCS: Intended Nationally Determined Contributions in a presentation, followed by a question and answer (Q&A) session. The guide provides a template for least developed countries to support their INDC preparations.
Preparing Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs)
This guidebook serves as a practical tool for least developed countries (LDCs) to support their INDC preparations; it addresses a number of common challenges that LDCs face. It presents a template that could be used by LDCs and gives a practical example of how an INDC could be structured, with examples to illustrate a narrative and sources of background information. This template was developed at the request of some LDCs for practical guidance, tailored to their needs. As such it seeks to address the broad range of challenges that LDCs face and their different national circumstances and levels of capacity, preparedness and ambition.
This publication responds to requests for more specific guidance on INDCs from countries participating in the UNDP-UNFCCC Regional Technical Dialogues on INDCs held in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and Eastern Europe. It reflects the ideas shared during these regional dialogues, taking account of the current state of negotiations, and puts forward options for the preparation of INDCs based on research from recent literature and relevant UNFCCC documentation. The guidance document is divided into two parts. Part I provides a general overview of INDC preparation and design, while Part II provides technical guidance on INDC design.
This paper provides guidance on the preparation process of INDCs according to the responsibilities and respective capabilities of the countries. It presents various options on how to prepare different components of an INDC and countries are free to select the options that best match their capabilities.
